What is a NetID?

NetID is a unique identifier that every faculty, staff, student, and guest get through Rutgers University. It is an alphanumeric character and helps you to access all university services accessible through a digital mode. To use any online service, first, you will have to activate your NetID.

Two-factor authentication is simply one extra authentication that needs to be completed after entering your NetID and password. It adds a second layer of security to your account.

You may follow the below steps to set up two-factor authentication.

-Visit the two-factor authentication web page at https://it.rutgers.edu/two-step-login/.
-Click the Enroll Now button to start the process or directly visit the enrollment web page https://netid.rutgers.edu/viewMultiFactorHome.htm.
-Login with your NetID and click the Next button to enroll your device.
-On the next page, you will get four authentication options as mentioned below.
1-Touch ID – Use Touch ID on the device.
2-Duo Mobile – Get a notification or code on your device.
3-Security Key – Use a security key
4-Phone number – Get a text message or phone call.

Select any one option and enroll your device. Rutgers recommends you enroll in the Duo Mobile app for two-factor authentication as it provides more security.

You will have to download the Duo mobile app on your device to complete the enrollment process. You may also set up a Phone number authentication method along with the Duo app.
